The Voice
There is a voice inside of you
That whispers all day long,
“I feel this is right for me,
I know that this is wrong.”
No teacher, preacher, parent, friend
Or wise man can decide
What’s right for you–just listen to
The voice that speaks inside.”
― Shel Silverstein
So much of how we decide to re-enter the world is about the voice within us. We need to acknowledge and accept our voice in order to move forward. Throughout the pandemic I’ve listened to my voice and felt it open my heart wider, begged my mind to think deeper, and challenged me to adjust and evolve in a better and braver way.
This entire experience has flipped me upside down. As it has for many, quarantine changed me. I am determined to navigate this pandemic with an authentic voice. This means surrendering guilt, celebrating vulnerability, and doing what feels best for my family.
Sometimes I struggle to write because I wonder if what I’m sharing is worthwhile or necessary. But I think it’s worthwhile and necessary to remind everyone to listen to their voice. Do what makes you comfortable and own the decisions confidently. The design of our discourse these days is to question or criticize. I am focused on learning, which means listening, trying, and reflecting.
As always, Shel Silverstein to the rescue.
